KATANGA MINING announces changes in CEO position with appointment of Mark Davies.

Katanga Mining Limited has announced the appointment of Mr. Mark Davis to the position of Chief Executive Officer of the Company, effective as of November 19, 2019. Mr. Davis was designated to act as CEO by Glencore International AG (“Glencore”) pursuant to the management services agreement between the Company and Glencore entered into in January 2019. Mr. Davis replaces Mr. Jeff Gerard as CEO and has assumed Mr. Gerard’s seat on the Company’s board of directors.

Mr. Davis has almost two and a half decades of experience in global mining companies, working within Australia, Africa and South America. Prior to joining Katanga, he was the Executive General Manager of MMG’s operational and growth objectives in Africa, Australia, and Asia. Prior thereto, Mr. Davis had general management responsibility for BHP Billiton’s aluminum smelting operations in South Africa. Mr. Davis holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Metallurgical Engineering from RMIT University in Melbourne, Australia.

Hi predescessor, Mr. Gerard has a short stint as he was appointed Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Katanga Mining Limited effective on May 2, 2019 and has over 40 years of experience in the mineral resources sector and was previously Chief Development Officer of Glencore Coal, based in Sydney, since Glencore’s 2013 merger with Xstrata plc. Prior thereto, Mr. Gerard served as Xstrata Coal’s Chief Operating Officer Americas from 2006 to 2007 (including a period of serving as Xstrata’s nominee on the board of directors of TSX-listed Erdene Resource Development Corp.) and Chief Operating Officer South Africa from 2007 to 2010. In addition to serving as the CEO of the Company Mr Gerard will serve as the Head of Glencore’s copper assets in the DRC and oversee the Glencore Group’s other operation, Mutanda Mining.
