Major changes are taking place at Newmont Goldcorp Corporation’s Executive team with Tom Palmer current President and Chief Operating Officer set to take over as Chief Executive Officer from Gary Goldberg effective 1 October 2019.
Tom became President and Chief Operating Officer of Newmont Goldcorp in November 2018. Previously, he served as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer since May 2016 – with more than 85 percent of the Company’s workforce reporting to him – Newmont Goldcorp has generated more than $2 billion in free cash flow and commissioned two new mines and six expansions on four continents, on or ahead of schedule and at or below budget. Mr. Palmer has also played a central role in leading the Newmont Goldcorp integration and the establishment of the joint venture with Barrick in Nevada Mr. Palmer was elected Senior Vice President, Asia Pacific in February 2015 after serving as Senior Vice President, Indonesia since March 2014. Prior to joining Newmont Goldcorp, he was the Chief Operating Officer, Pilbara Mines at Rio Tinto Iron Ore.
Over a 20-year career with Rio Tinto, Mr. Palmer worked in a variety of roles across a number of commodities, including General Manager, Technology for the Bauxite and Alumina business; General Manager, Operations at Hail Creek coal mine; and General Manager, Asset Management at Palabora Mining Company in South Africa. Mr. Palmer brings extensive experience leading teams and delivering production while implementing safety culture programs and improving diversity. He earned a Master of Engineering Science degree and a Bachelor of Engineering degree from Monash University in Melbourne, Australia.

Goldberg will retire from Newmont Goldcorp after more than seven years of exemplary service transforming the company into the world’s leading gold business as measured by assets, prospects and talent.
From October 1, 2019 through March 31, 2020, Goldberg will serve as Executive Advisor to support Palmer and the Executive Leadership Team.

Gary J. Goldberg has served as Chief Executive Officer and member of the Board of Directors of Newmont Goldcorp Corporation since March 2013. He served as President and Chief Executive Officer from March 2013 until November 2018, and previously served as President and Chief Operating Officer since July 2012 and as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer since December 2011. Prior to joining Newmont Goldcorp, Mr. Goldberg was President and Chief Executive Officer of Rio Tinto Minerals, and served in leadership roles in Rio Tinto’s coal, gold, copper and industrial minerals businesses. Mr. Goldberg has more than 35 years of experience in the mining industry and was inducted into the American Mining Hall of Fame in 2017. He is the current Vice Chair of the World Gold Council and Treasurer of the International Council on Mining and Metals, and served as Chair of the National Mining Association in the United States from 2008 to 2010.
