Debswana Diamond Company has announced the appointment of Mpho Mosate as Executive Head of Safety and Sustainability, effective 01 April 2023. Mpho started her career in 2000 with SNV Netherlands Development Organisation, working with grassroots livelihood projects. She progressed to work with the United Nations Development Programme in various environmental programmes including the Environmental Support Programme providing policy reform support to the Department of Environmental Affairs.
Mpho Started her career with Debswana in 2007 as an Environmental Coordinator based in Jwaneng Mine. In 2018 she was appointed as Environmental Assurance Manager serving at the Debswana Corporate Centre thereafter in 2021 returned to Jwaneng Mine as the Senior Safety and Sustainable Development Manager. In 2022 Mpho was seconded to De Beers Group UK, as Sustainability Integration Principle where she supported the Groups Business Units in the UK, Canada and Southern Africa on the further integration and embedment of the Building Forever Sustainability Strategy. In 2017, successfully developed and implemented Jwaneng Mine Safety and Environment performance turn-around Plan against the ISO 14001 and 45001 standards and maintained Certification and high performance.
She went on to achieve world-class performance against safety performance indicators, which received Regional and International recognition through the International Association of Business Communication – Safety Programmes a Silver Quill Award and a Gold Quill Award. In 2021, in recognition of the transformational Human Factors Programme, she was awarded the Anglo-American Albert Milton Safety Leadership Award.
In London, Mpho supported Business Units with the development of Goal pathways, giving clarity to ambition achievement and monitoring and tracking of the Building Forever (sustainability and socio-economic development) strategy plans. In all the roles she has been deployed to, Mpho has discharged her duties with a high sense of commitment and resolve, impacting the business exceptionally. Mpho graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and Environmental Science from the University of Botswana, she also holds a Master of Law in Environmental Legal Studies.
